The Solomon- Cartwrights
The Solomon-Cartwrights selected striking contrasts for their black and yellow laminated plywood kitchen. They bravely went for bright yellow glass splashbacks, orange and yellow illuminated open shelving sections, and a curated selection of red accessories to achieve stunning results. We love how confident our clients can be with their colour choices, and actively encourage them to be bold and choose something that reflects their personality, and not necessarily what’s currently on trend. This is really important to us because their finished kitchen will be there for a long, long time, so it’s crucial that we create something they’ll love well into the future.
Colours aside, we also had to be creative in our use of space for this client, as they needed to squeeze a lot into their kitchen. Without the use of a separate utility or broom cupboard, space was needed for their washing machine and vacuum cleaner as well as the boiler. Our client also wanted a dining area where the kids could grab breakfast each morning. To make all of this happen, we designed a few special features not found in your ‘normal’ everyday kitchen. Firstly, we turned the washing machine on its side, which didn’t just provide extra depth to the cupboard run underneath but it also didn’t spoil the look of the run of base units. Sometimes it’s difficult to design around white goods, especially when the base units are black, so by doing this we helped to distract the eye away from the washer a little. The next thing we did was create some ‘stepped’ larder cupboards around the boiler, which then also housed utility items like the ironing board. The Dyson got its own special cupboard, designed to fit it – and all its accessories – perfectly. Lastly, we designed a cantilevered floating breakfast bar that allowed a morning eating area for the children, exactly in line with the original brief.

Client Comments
We are very, very happy with our new kitchen. Everyone at Wood & Wire demonstrated the patience of a saint as we worked through the finishes, colours, layout and options. Everything is bespoke, to the millimetre, so the configurations, colours and options are literally endless.
The end-result is aesthetically beautiful, but also much more practically effective than its predecessor. We seem to have somehow ended up with more floor space, more cupboard space, more ovens and bigger appliances, a bigger sink, and a deeper worktop – it all works together and is easier to use.
Speakers and the Dyson, previously screwed to the wall, now nestle snugly inside made-to-measure spaces. The lighting, integrated into the units, is stunning.
Installation took some time, but the installers, led by Ben, were great, easy to have in the house and went to no end of trouble to make sure everything was right – even to the extent of crafting some skirting board to match.
We have absolutely no hesitation in recommending Jim, Tim and all at Wood & Wire.
