The Sibthorpes
Having worked on their vision with an architect friend in Europe, our clients had a grand extension and modern bespoke kitchen planned for their 1930’s detached house in a highly sought-after Manchester suburb. With ambitious ideas in hand, they commissioned an additional British architect and builder to take their concept through planning and then bring it to life. The result is a stunning open-plan ‘naked’ concrete structure incorporating large expanses of glass, with a living green roof helping create a space that is almost seamlessly connected with the expansive and private garden beyond.
Wood & Wire were enlisted on the project to help tie the hallway and main house with the newly built kitchen extension while creating a new kitchen itself within it.
We started with a wall of floor-to-ceiling cupboards leading away from the front door of the house, right along the inner wall, to then wrap around the corner from the main building into the new space. These cupboards provide the whole family with a clutter-free cloakroom, kitchen and utility storage, keeping the entrance to the home simple and minimal in preparation for the surprise to come. Turning the corner, the kitchen itself, with its simple galley layout, faces a huge island unit – the focal point of the scheme, housing the seamless Bora Pure Hob and pop-up sockets.
Working with the architect’s concept, we helped to realise the eye-level sliding door aperture along the wall of the kitchen into the multi-functional space of the main house.
Our clients chose a simple scheme of pure white for both their Corian worksurfaces and laminated door fronts, allowing the building’s concrete, glass and wood beam structural elements to do the talking. At floor level, the scheme was finished with a poured pale grey resin floor.

The attention to detail during the design stage and the bespoke high-quality product that resulted from this process has given us a wonderful kitchen. Not only that, the staff from wood and wire have been a pleasure to deal with- patient, knowledgeable, and friendly. I can’t recommend them highly enough.
