The Robsons

The Colourful Family Home Renovation we completed for The Robsons in Lancashire is a brilliant example of how thoughtful design and bold colour choices can transform a house into a joyful, functional family home.

At its centre is a vibrant plywood kitchen, where deep green, mint green-blue and sunny yellow laminate fronts meet oak-veneered birch ply cabinets. A central island with open shelving creates the perfect hub for cooking, chatting, and family meals, while integrated Siemens appliances ensure everything runs smoothly behind the scenes.

But this renovation goes far beyond the kitchen. The utility room features playful yellow cabinetry, providing hardworking storage for laundry and household tasks without sacrificing style. The pantry, designed with a busy family life in mind features push to open seamless doors, and open shelving for housing books and other essentials, whilst a bespoke shoe rack with open cubbies keep clutter at bay making daily routines effortless.

But what began as a straightforward interiors commission took an exciting turn when the architects raised concerns about the staircase. The builders on-site were straying too far from the carefully planned staircase design, and there was a risk the final result would miss the architect’s vision entirely.

Although the staircase wasn’t in our original scope, Jim from Wood & Wire was asked to step in. Thanks to his clear understanding of the design brief and practical craftsmanship, we were entrusted to take over this critical feature.

The result? A bespoke staircase crafted from Oak and Oak veneered birch plywood. Navigating the tight space and headroom restrictions was no small feat, but the finished staircase has transformed the flow of the house, adding the architectural interest and wow factor the client and architect had always imagined.

Elsewhere throughout the house, custom joinery adds clever storage and playful personality, from built-in toy storage in the living room to colourful cut-out handles. Every detail was designed to support the Robsons’ needs, creating a home that’s as beautiful as it is practical.
