The Childe – Atkinson’s

We were delighted to be invited to help this couple and their young family create a functional and stylish layout for their Chorlton kitchen in Manchester. Drenched with light, this kitchen shares its space with the family dining area and a small snug while overlooking the garden through wall-to-wall patio doors. The scheme, an L-shaped layout with central island feature, opens itself to the dining area and garden beyond.
Starting at the L from the kitchen’s entrance is the waste recycling unit, Siemens integrated dishwasher, and double-door sink unit with Franke stainless steel undermounted sink and matching tap, all leading into the end of the kitchen where a corner cupboard features a Peka pull-out. Above, a run of tall wall units starts with illuminated open shelving.

Turning the corner, a three-drawer base unit sits directly below the flush-faced Siemens integrated induction hob and small pull-out integrated Peka spice rack. Meanwhile, above, the wall units also run around the corner to house the integrated extractor fan.

Leading from the base units to the end of the scheme, a run of tall units comprises the oven stack with top and bottom storage which houses the Siemens microwave/combi oven and conventional oven. There’s also a double-door bridging unit which rests above the large free-standing stainless steel American fridge-freezer, and, finally, an integrated Peka pull-out larder with overhead storage.

Taking centre stage in the scheme is the island unit, featuring a three-drawer base unit facing the sink and a double-layer of sliding-door storage on the opposite side. Above, a white Corian worktop cantilevers over the island front and side to create seating for two at one end, and a further two spots on the other end, before its surface angles back and down towards the floor. Our clients selected yellow and black laminate to face their plywood kitchen carcasses along with a white Corian worktop with curved upstands for the remaining work surfaces. A stainless steel splashback protects the wall behind the hob, while white walls and a varnished wooden panelled floor complete this simple yet sophisticated Chortlon kitchen.
