The Walsers

The Walsers came to us for their bespoke kitchen cabinets as a family who were already familiar with our work, having both seen and been recommended to them by another client in the local area. They knew they wanted a Wood & Wire kitchen for the planned extension of their Victorian terrace and were keen for us to help them create a bespoke kitchen/diner snug area for their lovely home.

Having started the process with the idea of an L-shaped kitchen featuring a peninsula overlooking the diner, the client finally settled upon an L-shape with island unit, providing the family with much-needed extra work surface and storage space.
Starting on the wall adjacent to the main entrance into the kitchen is a double tall unit containing the client’s freestanding fridge with overhead storage, plus a large larder cupboard. Immediately after this, a corner cupboard leads the scheme into the corner of the room to the right of the old chimney breast. Running up to the chimney breast is a deep cupboard followed by a shallow one, which allows the base run of units to continue unbroken around the chimney’s face. Above this, a single door sliding cupboard allows for hidden storage as well as open illuminated shelving for decorative items.

In the mouth of the chimney itself is a stainless-steel range with overhead cupboard, containing the fully integrated extractor. To the left of the range is another shallow base cupboard, again wrapping around the chimney wall, leading directly into a wide three-drawer base unit which fills the remaining wall to the left of the chimney. Above, the sliding-door cupboard from the right of the chimney is repeated.

At the front of the scheme is the feature island, complete with angled sides containing bar-side seating for three, illuminated shelving for the family’s collection of cookbooks at one end, and a waterfall end of white Corian which wraps seamlessly around to the worktop surface. Here, the 1.5 undermounted stainless steel Franke sink sits below a matt black curved tap. Below the sink is a utility cupboard, with a fully integrated dishwasher on one side and integrated recycling centre and additional pull-out condiment cupboard on the other.

To finish their bespoke kitchen cabinets, the family chose a colour palate of black and yellow laminates coupled with oak veneer for their cabinets, nicely complementing their grey and white painted walls, white ceilings, dark grey paintwork and a lovely wooden herringbone tiled floor.
