The Corfields

When this client approached us, they wanted to bring some colour into their kitchen in Kendal (Lake District, Cumbria) while creating a functional space with banquette seating. The scheme – rather tricky with its protruding walls and tapered layout – starts on the back wall of the kitchen with a run of tall units comprising the integrated fridge-freezer, an integrated Peka pull-out larder, and the oven stack housing a bottom drawer, Siemens microwave/combi oven and conventional oven, all of which contain overhead storage. At base level, a three-drawer unit and corner cupboard complete the run while, above, the Siemens integrated induction hob sits below a double layer of sliding-door wall units with illuminated open apertures containing the integrated extractor fan.

Turning the corner, a single-door sink unit houses a single-bowl Franke stainless steel undermounted sink and Quooker hot water tap sitting next to the integrated dishwasher, before the whole scheme protrudes out to wrap around the external wall. Here, two shallow cupboards sit against the external wall before the scheme turns the corner for the fourth time. A further cupboard and three-drawer base unit sit facing towards the room, with upholstered banquette seating on the other side, which turns the corner to run along the external wall under the window. Finally, the scheme turns back into itself at an angle, creating a peninsula with storage on one side and open illuminated shelving on the other.

Possibly our most colourful scheme to date, the client opted for brights of green, blue, yellow, white, orange and birch ply to lift their spirits in times of dreary Cumbrian weather. Varnished wooden floors, white Corian worksurfaces with coved upstands, and white walls and ceiling finish this bold and uplifting scheme
